Greetings in the name of Christ. We thank God for your ongoing partnership in God’s mission, and in particular for taking time to explore joining with Peter Jan and his family as they take their next step in this journey. We would like to take this opportunity to commend Peter Jan to you, to express our excitement at his joining our team, and to explain the importance of this specific work in God’s mission.

Peter Jan will be joining the LEAD Asia-Pacific team, a service unit of SIL International and a close partner of Wycliffe Bible Translators. LEAD Asia-Pacific believes that real lasting transformation is only possible when people are treated with respect; respect for who they are and respect for what matters to them. As such, we work with partners across Asia, the Pacific, and beyond to ensure that non-dominant language communities are central to any mission or development work, integrating their knowledge and experience to find appropriate solutions to their most pressing challenges. One consistent challenge faced throughout the region at this time is that of the environment, in particular both climate change related issues (sea level rise, changed weather patterns, etc.) and land-use related issues (land degradation and erosion, biodiversity loss, palm oil plantations and illegal logging, water resources, etc.).

For the creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. (Romans 8:19)

As the LEAD Asia-Pacific team continues to support partners across the region we see communities struggling to know how to respond to the challenges they face. At the same time we see opportunities to show God’s goodness to communities that may not know him, supporting them as they look to care for creation. For this reason, we have for some time known that we need to increase our capacity to support these partners in this area. We are very excited therefore to welcome Peter Jan to the team and about the opportunities this will present to better support teams and communities across Asia and the Pacific.
