Scripture App Builder workshop
How can we ensure that the Gospel of Mark reaches as many Korowai people as possible? Especially since most of them can’t read? These days, the best way to do that is through smart phones; most people do have those.
That’s why I attended this year’s EMDC (Bible Usage) Conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The EMDC consisted of three different rounds of workshops, and during the first round, I joined the “Scripture App Builder” workshop. Here I learned how to create apps in the Korowai language using the translated Bible materials. I’m not very tech-savvy myself, so it was really nice to follow this workshop. I ran into a few tough challenges, but fortunately, these were quickly resolved with the help of the experts on hand.
During the workshop, I created a first version of the Malkus Mawyon app. This app allows the Korowai to read and/or listen to the Gospel of Mark. The text that is being read aloud is also highlighted on the screen, making it easy to read along. To make the text more engaging, illustrations can be added. I’m still working on that.
In addition to the Malkus Mawyon app, I’m also working on building apps for the nine Korowai audio Bible storybooks from Gospel Recordings. These audio storybooks are based on Bible illustrations depicting salvation history. These are a bit easier to create, since they consist solely of audio recordings illustrated with a picture.
