Security situation
Following the terrorist attack in February, soldiers were stationed in the villages of Danowage and Yaniruma to ensure the security of the airports.
Because the soldiers feared further attacks, they were suspicious of the local population. Conversely, the local population did not feel safe, so it took some time for a new social balance to emerge. The perpetrators of the attack are still at large and have since struck again in another (non-Korowai) village.
The GIDI evangelists and the teachers at the Papua Hope school in Danowage have left and moved to the city, so the work there is on hold for the moment. The GGRI pastor in Yaniruma, on the other hand, has built up some rapport with the soldiers and is now involving them in the preparations for the planned Dedication of the Gospel of Mark in the Korowai language.
